Our story began back in 1962. It has been an long and eventful journey for Tata International, which is today a global trading and distribution company.

A look at some of the significant milestones along our journey:


The company is established on November 30, 1962 as Commercial and Industrial Exports Limited.


The company is renamed Tata Exports Limited.


The company commences export operations of Tata commercial vehicles.


The Leather Division is set up, which goes on to emerge as one of the largest Indian export houses of leather and leather products in 1982.


Tata Zambia Limited is incorporated as a subsidiary of the company.


The company becomes a qualified Trading House recognised by the Ministry of Commerce, Government of India.

Two turnkey contracts are facilitated by the company with the support of ACC in Saudi Arabia and Iraq.


The company opens its branch office in London, UK.


The company grows its presence in Thailand, with the opening of a local office.


Tata Namibia (Pty) Limited is set up as a wholly-owned subsidiary.

A representative office in Jebel Ali, Dubai begins operations in the UAE.

A representative office is set up in Kenya.


Tata South East Asia Limited is set up in Hong Kong and operations commence.


Tata West Asia FZE, Dubai is formed in the Jebel Ali Free Trade Zone.

Tata Holdings Mocambique Limitada is set up.

New markets are developed for Tata vehicles in Argentina, Chile, France, Paraguay, Turkey, Spain and Hungary.


In April 1994, a new division is set up for the export of steel and engineering products of Tata Steel and associate companies.

A liaison office is opened in Ethiopia.

Tata Africa holdings (SA) (PTY) Limited in formed in Johannesburg, South Africa.


A representative office is established in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

A marketing tie-up is established with DAKS Simpsons plc UK, for the textile garments division with the long-term goal of the upgrading of manufacturing facilities and entry into the supply chain of DAKS worldwide. The company subsequently exited the textile garments business and DAKS was handed over to the Forbes group.


Tata Ghana Limited is incorporated as a subsidiary of the company.

Tata Automobile Corporation (SA) (Pty) Limited (TACSA) is set up as a 50:50 joint venture with ERF (SA) (Pty) Limited, a Dorbyl Group company.

Thereafter, Tata Africa Holdings acquires 50-per cent equity in ERF.

The company is renamed Tata International Limited.


Tata International is awarded Golden Super Star Trading House status by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Government of India.


The company’s Transmission Line Towers business is handed over to Tata Power / Tata Projects.

Tata International sets up a liaison office in Sri Lanka.

Tata International sets up a representative office in Singapore.


Tata International sets up DIESL (Drive India), a joint venture company with Tata Industries.


The company sets up a branch office in Uruguay.

Tata International sets up a joint venture with Dutch Lanka for the manufacture of trailers.


Tata Africa (Senegal) S.A.R.L. is formed as a subsidiary of Tata International.


Tata International forays into domestic footwear retail under the TASHI brand.

Tata International initiates acquisition of Bachi Shoes.

Tata International awarded SA 8000 accreditation.


Tata International Trading Singapore Pte Limited, a subsidiary of Tata International, is set up.


Tata International celebrates its 50th anniversary of incorporation on November 30, 2012.

Tata International renews its focus on trading with emphasis on select verticals – metals, distribution, leather and leather products and minerals.


Tata International forays into agri trading business in select geographies.


Tata Group pays tribute to founder Jamsetji Tata, a visionary leader who worked tirelessly to shape the future of India, on his 175th birth anniversary on March 3, 2014.

Tata International Metals (UK) Limited is set up in London.

Tata International Metals (Asia) Limited is established in Seoul, South Korea.

Tata International Metals (Americas) Limited is incorporated in Illinois and Texas (USA) and Nuevo Leon (Mexico).


Tata South-East Asia (Cambodia) Limited is established as a subsidiary of Tata International in Phnom Penh.


Tata International Vietnam Company Limited is set up as a subsidiary in Ho Chi Minh City.

Tata International West Asia DMCC is incorporated in Dubai, UAE.


Merger of Bachi Shoes Limited with Tata International is completed.


Tata International Metals (South Africa) Limited is set up in Johannesburg.


Tata International Metals (Guangzhou) Limited is set up in China.

AFCL Ghana Limited is established in Ghana.

AFCL Zambia Limited is incorporated in Zambia.

Alliance Leasing Limited is set up in Kenya.

AFCL Premium Services Limited is established in Nigeria.

Stryder Cycle Private Limited is incorporated in India.
